Around 2013, during the writing of Unbelievers, I met Robert Steven Hunt (usually known as Steve), who is a self-taught pianist among other creative pursuits. I was asked to create the CD artwork for his debut album Eagle Mountain, comprising easy-listening music for solo piano.
The imagery is built up from several public-domain texture layers, making heavy use of layer masking to draw out a new picture from the abstract components. Forked versions of a single original workfile were used to create front and rear covers, plus the interior of a 4-page mini-booklet and the disc art itself, in order to make the entire package feel unified.
This would prove to be the first of several cover-art commissions for Steve; subsequent albums include Edge of Time (2020) and Driftwood (2023).
