One Sunday afternoon shortly after finishing the second major Papertowns drawing, Lodewater, I picked up my A5 cartridge pad and drew a small picture, which was less about the buildings and landscapes of Paperworld and instead focussed on one of its inhabitants: a giant-monster enthusiast somewhat modelled on Sam Arthur, the main difference being that instead of following kaiju films, this denizen of Paperworld seems to be following and documenting actual kaiju.
This was the first in what ended up being a series of ten pictures, each portraying a character inspired (to one degree or another) by somebody I know in real life, drawn over the next year and a half or so.
